Make 2021 Your Year (Really) With These Four Goal-Setting Tips

ChicExecs VP of Public Relations and Digital Media, Kristen Wessel, shares how to make 2021 your year with four goal-setting tips on Forbes blog.
Well, 2020 was certainly a year for the history books. Odds are, the goals you set for yourself in January 2020 came crashing down by March.
Even then, I know it can feel tough setting goals amid so much uncertainty. Is goal-setting really worth it this year? Absolutely!
Here’s how you can leave the craziness of 2020 behind and look forward to 2021.
1. Take goal-setting seriously.
This sounds like common sense, but your goals won’t work out if you don’t give them your all. You have to recognize why goals are important if you want to truly change your life.
2. Be SMART.
I love SMART goals! SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. If you’re sick of assigning yourself general goals, like “lose weight,” you need to follow the SMART framework.
3. Write it down and share it.
Documentation and accountability are important steps when working toward reaching a goal. Whether it’s on a dry-erase board, your phone or a 2021 planner, make sure you write down and track your goal progress.
4. Make it a daily habit.
It’s tough fulfilling a goal if you don’t think about it every day. That’s why it’s best to turn your goal into a daily habit. For example, maybe you wake up early to exercise or teach yourself coding every evening after dinner.
The Bottom Line
I know it’s hard to set goals when the world is still in turmoil. But goals are essential to give you direction during turbulent times. Make sure you create the right goals for 2021; follow these four tips to give yourself purpose and direction with achievable goals. Who knows? 2021 could just be your year after all.
