Nuno is the fashion accessory company giving a new voice and platform to those in the sustainable garment industry. Japanese for “fabric,” the brand has two main focuses: creating silky-soft, earth-friendly products from recycled materials and designing them in artful ways that bring out your inner-fashionista. In addition to delivering this eco-friendly pop of color to your outfits, Nuno collaborates with up-and-coming artists ensuring each earth-loving piece is one-of-a-kind wearable art.
The Salt Lake City-based start-up was featured in the Cool Products column which covers companies whose products are interesting and helpful from a climate change adaptation and mitigation perspective and within reach of everyday people. The columnist mentions that his fashion-conscious daughter can’t wait to sport some Nuno Love next time she ventures outside of her “COVID-19 cocoon.”
Nuno’s NeoSilk scarves, kimonos, and sleep masks are so beautiful and soft-to-the-touch, it’s hard to believe it’s cloth made out of recycled PET bottles and not real silk. How does the brand do it?
Plastic bottles are washed, shredded and turned into small pellets. These pellets are then melted and spun into yarn. The yarn is then woven into this fabric with a luxurious feel, called Neosilk.
Unlike the silk robes and scarves that are dry clean only, Nuno’s NeoSilk fabric is machine washable and will still stay as soft as silk. Although human society has a long way to go to effectively utilize recycling, companies like Nuno are finding value-creative, usable, and stylish applications for recycled plastics and they’re creating new demand.
Check out Nuno for the fashion accessories that are trend-forward, eco-conscious, and show artistic expression. What better way to increase the demand for recycled plastic needs than by sporting a fashionable, eye-catching, and colorful kimono or scarf!
