In the business world, there’s an entrepreneur with a love for art and empowering women of all ages that couldn’t be more perfect for our current times.
Meet Sheila “She” Keene, founder of A Girl Like Me, the creator of designs that empower girls and women. Her entrepreneurial passion and artistic skills combine to create a business where females are first. As a single mom, She has always been a fierce advocate for raising strong, confident daughters. Her mixed-media art is now her voice for that commitment – from original paintings to greeting cards, journals, and more.
The brand, in particular, encourages young girls and teens to go for their dreams and break barriers. That’s exactly what She did.
A former robotics and software engineer, her background in a technical field for more than 20 years took a turn to the artistic world when She retired from a primarily male-dominated world to pursue her first love – art with a purpose.
With the motto, “Girls Cannot Be What They Cannot See,” She is showing women all that they can be with inspiring quotes in her work such as “Not fragile like a flower, but fragile like a bomb” and “I didn’t wake up today to be mediocre.” Each piece has a slightly hidden date that represents a day in “herstory” that a woman performed a fantastical feat for females.
With dirt under her fingernails from her love of gardening to paint on her hands, She is a fierce, charismatic boss woman who has crafted the career she’s always wanted.
That’s simply who She is. Making her own seat at the table and loving every minute of it.

Congrats She Keene!
