Founder Nikki Carlson and Kailynn Bowling began the agency in 2007 after running a successful brand and product line, ChicBuds, in 2005. The makers of trendy retractable Swarovski studded earphones for iPods and cell phones, Chicbuds patented and developed innovative new products within the tech industry. Finding success in their business model, Carlson and Bowling felt their brand strategy was something other companies could use to grow their business.
“We decided to duplicate the recipe of success of our brand, ChicBuds, and create the model of a retail, digital and PR agency all under one roof,” said Carlson. “ChicExecs growth and expansion this last year alone is an incredible testament to the leadership, sales, PR, retail strategy and digital marketing teams. We have big things planned that will add even more exciting elements to our agency, focusing on what we do best when we Think Outside the Suit.”
With the mindset to “Think Outside The Suit,” ChicExecs is dedicated to being innovative as intrapreneurs, creators and entrepreneurs, rather than sticking within the lines of a corporate structure. With innovation at the forefront, ChicExecs has cultivated relationships with key buyers, editors and influencers both nationwide and internationally.
“With 20 years in business, Nikki and I are extremely proud of the efforts our team has taken under unprecedented circumstances to land our clients PR and retail wins,” said Bowling. “We love having the privilege of telling other brands’ stories and getting the word out for all businesses that have been so deeply affected by the current times. Their resilience continues to amaze us, and we love being a part of their team. As they say, teamwork makes the dream work!”
Both the agency and its founders continued to receive accolades in 2021. Carlson and Bowling were named finalists in San Diego Business Journal’s Business Women of the Year Awards. ChicExecs was selected as a Top 10 San Diego PR Agency by DesignRush and was named the winner of a Bronze Stevie® Award for Public Relations Agency of the Year in The 19th Annual American Business Awards®. The year also saw Carlson and Bowling contributing regular blogs on Forbes and Newsweek covering industry tips and trends.
The agency regularly gives back to its local community, supporting such worthy causes as the Susan G. Komen Foundation in honor of its director of retail strategy and her fight against breast cancer.
